Betty Joan Hendon Rutledge Obituary

Betty Joan Hendon Rutledge passed away peacefully at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cullen and Hazel Hendon; her beloved husband, Wayne Rutledge; grandson, Benjamin Cody Sandlin; brothers, Ray Hendon, Thomas Hendon, and Infant Joseph Alfred Hendon; sister, Carol Hendon Chapman; and nephew, James Edmon Clakley, Jr. She is survived by her daughters: Debra Evans Embury (Greg Embury), Kathy “Tootie” Evans, and Dr. Charla Evans (Dr. Kristen Fuller); one sister, Jean Clakley; one grandson, Josh Sandlin; great-grandchildren, Bailee Sandlin, Connor Madison (Abby), Dexley Madison, and Ayla Willis; two stepchildren, Tracy Rutledge Lynn and Todd Rutledge; one sister-in-law, Barbara Hendon; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rutledge’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the entire Ridgewood Healthcare Facility for their excellent care and love given to their mother over the past eight years. They also wish to extend their gratitude to all family members and dear friends for their prayers for their mom and their family. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. from The Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Carbon Hill. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Sister Gail Darty Johnson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Connor Madison, Dexley Madison, Hugh Darty, Richard Barnes, Todd Rutledge, and Earnie Darty.
