Feb. 17, 1946
Rodrick E. Grant (Rod) age 78 of Jasper, passed away suddenly on November 22, 2024. He was born in February 1946 to John and Eloise Grant of Bessemer, Alabama. He graduated from Bessemer High School in 1964 and proudly attended the University of Alabama, where he graduated in 1970 with a degree in Mineral Engineering (Petroleum Engineering). Rod was very passionate about his Petroleum Engineering career and his company; Rod Grant & Company, Inc reflected that passion and his expertise in the field. For over 40 years, Rod was a highly respected Oil and Gas Engineer who traveled the US and abroad sharing his wealth of knowledge and love for his career. Rod loved sharing his oil rig stories with family and friends and treated everyone he met like an old friend. Rod never met a stranger. Rod was a selfless, caring, loyal, compassionate, giving, and loving person who always put family and friends first. After retiring in Texas, Rod moved back home to Alabama. It’s there, where he and the love of his life, Trudy, were married and designed and built their dream beach home, “Grant’s Landing”. Years later they moved to North Alabama to their forever home on Smith Lake, which Rod named “Grant’s Treehouse”. Rod loved the water and nature that surrounded them. He spent countless hours on his golf cart, cutting grass, working on his boat dock, piddling in his garage, drawing and designing his next projects, and swinging on his front porch with his best buddy and loyal companion, his rescue labrador retriever, Bama Girl. Rod had a special place in his heart for rescuing large-breed dogs and many stories he shared of his days on the oil rigs included a chapter or two about the special furry companions that were by his side. Rod is survived by his loving wife Trudy R. Grant and his children who he loved deeply, Dessa (Thomas), Ty, Tina (David), and Michael (Lori), and his sister, Gail. Rod was so proud of all of his grandchildren, Julian, James, Darcy, Gabrielle, Livi, Taryne and Mili. Rod is preceded in death by his beloved son Ben, Marjorie Grant, Richard Grant, Robert Grant and his parents. Rod had a high appreciation for intricate detail and things well done. He valued and loved life and lived it to the fullest. His smile will always be remembered as one that lit up a room with love and kindness. His fingerprints will never fade from all the lives that he touched. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In memory, donations may be made to your local animal shelter.
