Mr. Leslie Gene Hinkle, age 83 of Winfield, Alabama in the Glen Allen community passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Walker Baptist Hospital in Jasper, Alabama.
He was born in Elk City, Oklahoma on April 7, 1941 to Homer and Mina Hinkle. He was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ in Winfield. He was a graduate of Sweetwater High School in Sweetwater, Oklahoma. A graduate of Oklahoma School of Preaching and received a Degree of Bachelor of Science in Education from Freed-Hardeman College in 1989.
Les had a variety of work, working sometimes 2-3 jobs at a time. After graduating from the School of Preaching, he began preaching in Northern Missouri. This then led to the 38 years of preaching the gospel and then later missionary work. He has been to all 50 states of our United States and 4 of the 7 continents. He has written several commentaries and has a love for bible history.
In his spare time, he engaged in going to yard sales, working outside, reading biblical material, eating sweets, and his family. Mr. Hinkle is survived by his wife of 59 years Shirley Hinkle; son Brad Hinkle (Ruth) of Muscle Shoals; daughters Pat Gardner Bales (Kelly) of McLoud, Oklahoma, Vickie Hinkle Morris of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Terri Hinkle Porch (Jerry) of Eldridge, Alabama; special niece, Trish Hinkle Iverson of Norman, Oklahoma; stepson, Rick Garner (Sarah) of Winfield, Alabama; grandchildren, Kelly Bales II (Desiree), Brianna Manion (Cody), Larry Morris II, Ashley Morris, Sarah Martensen (Paxton), Noah Hinkle (Morgan), Luke Hinkle, Trey Porch (Lindsey), Leslie Brooke Porch (boyfriend – Harley), Erin Marshall (Tanner), Jacob Gardner (Nicole); great grandchildren Kynlie Bales, Hannah Manion, Adrian and Myles Morris, Ester Rose and Isaiah Martensen, Hattie Grey Hinkle, Maddox and Hudson Marshall, Michael, Colton, and Ellie Gardner; a brother Jerry Hinkle of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Mr. Hinkle is preceded in death by his parents Homer and Mina Hinkle; siblings, Marie Flippo, Inez Fisher, Oren Hinkle, L. Wayne Hinkle, Jo Whitely, Troy Hinkle, Donna Powers, Alice Schilke, and Frankie Dean Hinkle.
Celebration of Life for Leslie Hinkle will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 with visitation 3:30 P.M. – 4:30 P.M. and service 4:30 P.M. = 5:00 P.M. at the Eldridge Church of Christ.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Dr. Garcia’s office, the nurses at the hospital, and especially the nurses on the One Day Surgery side. We also wish to thank Wilson Funeral Home.
