Lawrence "Shannon" Patton Sr. Obituary

Lawrence Shannon Patton, Sr. of Jasper, Alabama passed away at his daughter's home on Saturday, September 14th, surrounded by his family. He was 85 years old.

Services are being held at Macedonia Baptist Church located at 305 Macedonia Loop, Jasper, Alabama 35503 on Thursday, September 19. The visitation begins at 1:00 p.m. with services to begin at 2:00 p.m. followed by a grave side service at Oak Hill cemetery, Jasper, Alabama.

Shannon is survived by his children, Sharon Patton Key, Lawrence Shannon Patton, Jr. (Katherine) and Lori Patton Bland (Stephen); grandchildren, Samantha Key Curtis (Jerame) and Austin Patton; brother, Jerry David Patton and a host of cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Samuel (Sam) Butler Patton; mother, Lora Hazel Swindle Patton; paternal grandparents, John Henry Patton, Jr and Martha Sizemore Patton; maternal grandparents, John Arthur Swindle and Susan Idella (Della) Lowe Swindle; grandson, Ethan Peyton Bland and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Born in Jasper, Alabama, Shannon grew up in the Curry community. He attended Curry School and participated in the football program there. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union and worked at Smith Lake Dam, Lay Dam and Gorgas Steam Plant. Shannon also worked in the family business mining coal, excavating ponds and roads for the Smith Lake communities in the early days of the development of the lake.

Honorary pallbearers include Jerry Patton Robert Patton, Mac Phillips, Joe Ferguson, Richard Farly and Michael Farley.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Macedonia Baptist Church c/o Johnny Young, Pastor, 210 Bird Farm Rd Jasper, AL 35503. The church celebrated its centennial anniversary August 27, 2023.
