Melvin Ray Letson Obituary

This January 3, 2024, Melvin Letson took his final breath on this side of heaven, and gained his wings. The sun rose and welcomed Melvin on December 29, 1949, the day the world became allot brighter. Melvin is preceded in death by Wilburn Oneal Letson, Father; Maxine M. Letson, Mother; Oneal Letson, Brother; Keith Lee Williams, Son; Racheal Letson, Sister-n-law He is survived by his Children: Shanna (Josh) & Connie; Brother’s: Barney (Glenda), Shelby & Sister-n-law, Sherry; Grandchildren: Tyler Simpson, Jacob Simpson, Shaylyn Sanders, Jordan Davis, Kayla Flyers, Selena, Cody Special Friends: Ronnie Gilbert; Betty Jo Gilbert Special Daughter: Wanda Gilbert McGough Special Son: Robert Gilbert Special Nephews: Danny Letson & Derek Letson And so many others special to him; too many to name them all. Melvin grew up in Kansas, Alabama. He was called and served in Vietnam War as a Sargent over his Platoon. He often made mention of the letters from home that kept coming from his Mom, Ada Mae Tucker, Betty Jo Gilbert and Brenda Tucker. As a soldier he said that he couldn’t have made it through those days in his life without the love in those letters from home. He served for more than 2 years in the United States Army. Melvin loved racing, enjoyed working on his cars, “spinning a wheel”, benefit car shows with his daughter and time with his friends. He took pride in training his grandsons as shade tree mechanics. Melvin passed down his talents and wisdom to as many of those that would give him their time and was glad to do so. He had a few bumps on the road of life, but lived a life to the fullest and loved with a whole heart and offered so much wisdom to us all. He would do anything for anybody and was to glad to stop to lend you a helping hand. One of his best kept secrets was each year at Christmas to take a trailer load of toys to Children’s Hospital. He was a giver and had a servants heart. Melvin always had a smile, time and kind words to give you; and was an amazing Family Man. Everyone that knew Melvin knew how special hew was. He grew old but not up; and we all loved the child in Melvin! He made everyone who knew him laugh, cry, and clap at all the stories he shared. Melvin lived a full and warm life filled with love. To know him was to LOVE him and to call him a friend was a blessing. Our Dear Melvin, your presence brought joy to all who had the privilege of knowing you. You will be deeply missed.
