Erica Nicole Duncan Obituary

Erica Nicole Duncan, age 44, of Jasper, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, after spending the last few months of her life being lovingly cared for in the home of local friends. Those closest to "Ed" will remember her as a gifted athlete and artist who was kind, soft-spoken and brave, profoundly loving and fiercely loyal, immensely talented and incredibly humble. Erica returned to her hometown of Jasper in 2019 after spending much of her adult life in Atlanta and Phoenix. Erica's abundant well of kindness touched everyone she met. She remembered the names of all whose paths crossed hers and everyone felt and returned this kindness, from family and friends to doctors and service workers. In particular, Erica uplifted and encouraged her friends, always making sure they knew how much she loved, admired, and appreciated them we rarely left her without receiving a compliment. Her ability to remember the smallest details, from elementary school notebook drawings to high school game recaps to the daily minutiae of our lives, reminded us that she thought about us often and always thought of us in the best possible light. Although Erica had tenaciously battled cancer since 2010, her mind and memory stayed sharp, and she still called most of her friends by the nicknames she gave them over 25 years ago. Her laughter and presence are deeply missed. Erica was preceded in death by her father, Jonny Duncan; grandparents, Hurple Duncan, Joe & Betty Thompson; uncle, Barry Duncan; aunt, Paula Aldridge. She is survived by her loving Wife, Sarah Carter; Mother - Pam Duncan; Grandmother, June Duncan; Aunts, Sherry (Donny) Glenn and Tracey Sherer; and Cousins, Ada (Jason) House, Brandi (Jeff) Clark, Jeremy (Ashley) Harbin, Brandon (Kelsey) Harbin, Justin (Haley) Harbin, and Van (Shelbie) Duncan; close friends, Holly Hamilton and Tiffany Trotter; and a host of beloved friends and family. A private celebration of life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to send donations in memory of Erica to the MD Anderson Cancer Center for brain and spine research or the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation to support those impacted by paralysis.
